Laffey Rejects Minor League Assignment, Elects Free Agency

Southpaw Aaron Laffey has elected free agency in lieu of an outright minor league assignment from the Blue Jays.  The 28-year-old has been designated for assignment by the Mets and Jays this month, appearing in five big league games.

Laffey is now eligible to be signed by any team.  However, you have to wonder who is going to sign him since he had to clear waivers for the Jays to even offer the minor league assignment.  Nobody wanted him off the waiver wire.

Not a huge loss, but I prefer Laffey to Ramon Ortiz or Justin Germano as a 6th or 7th starter in the organization.
